Brookville wins Goodwill competition

BROOKVILLE — The Brookville High School marching band was declared the 2024 champions of the annual Goodwill Drive to Victory-Band Edition.

The marching band was declared the champion after collecting more than 62,000 pounds of donated items during the second week of the competition.

The marching band will receive $1,000 for being declared the champion.

The $1,000 will be added to the $400 the marching band received after winning the battle against Lebanon in week two of the competition.

The marching band collected a little more than 62,000 pounds of donated items in it’s competition against Lebanon.

Donated items collected by Brookville ranged from office and home furniture, other household items, clothing, jewelry, electronics and toys.

Donated items also included a vehicle.

Since entering the competition in 2011, the marching band has claimed the title of overall champion for the last nine years running, providing scholarship money as well as money for the band.

The $1,400 the band received this year will be used toward the purchase of three new sousaphones.

In addition to Brookville and Lebanon, other schools participating in the competition were Kenton Ridge, Tecumseh, Northeastern, Bellbrook, West Carrollton, Miamisburg, Franklin, Carlisle, Northmont, Centerville, Xenia, Fairborn, Waynesville, Valley View, Alter and Fairmont.

The final results were:

1. Brookville – 62,140 (car)

2. Valley View – 23,590 (car)

4. Northeastern – 17,590 (car)

6. Kenton Ridge – 16,150

7. Miamisburg – 15,010

8. Xenia – 12,340

9. Northmont – 12,070

12. Lebanon – 10,340

14. Carlisle – 8,990

15. Centerville – 8,740

16. Franklin – 7,220

17. Alter – 5,465

18. Fairmont – 5,465

The event benefits people in the Miami Valley by donating items that are sold in Goodwill stores.

Monies raised from the donations support Easter Seals programs as well as support 40 programs and services in 29 counties across Ohio, including the new resource center in Trotwood that benefits everyone.
