EATON – On Monday, Oct. 21, brothers Caleb and Xander Prater were presented proclamations from Eaton Mayor Matt Venable celebrating their achievement of Eagle Scout status.

Both received the rank of Eagle Scout on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Caleb has obtained over 70 merit badges, while Xander has obtained over 50. They achieved Eagle Scout for projects completed for the Preble County Historical Society.

For his community service project, Xander completed the construction of benches for the Preble County Historical Society and Nature Preserve’s Yellow Leadership Trail. Caleb completed the construction of wood duck boxes located around the Wetland at the Preble County Historical Society and Nature Preserve.

The proclamations noted, “the City of Eaton takes pride in its sense of community and citizen involvement. The vision of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare every eligible youth in America to become responsible, participating citizens and leaders, who are guided by the Scout Oath and Law; and the Boy Scouts of America encourages Eagle Scout candidates to complete worthy projects to improve their neighborhoods, their community and the region.”

According to BSA, Eagle Scout is the highest award a scout can receive, and few boys move up through the ranks of scouting and only about 2 percent make it all the way to Eagle.

The Prater brothers’ proclamations recognized each of their “persistent progress through the ranks to achieve this prestigious award demonstrates his determination to prepare himself for a meaningful, productive role in society.”
