BUTLER COUNTY — A Preble Shawnee High School student was killed and his sister seriously injured in a crash in Wayne Township last Thursday morning, Oct. 17.

Shawnee 11th grader Wyatt Duckworth, of Middletown, was identified Friday by the Butler County Coroner’s Office as the teen killed.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reported in a press release, on Oct. 17, at approximately 6:30 a.m., BCSO deputies along with the Wayne Township, St. Clair Township, and Madison Township Fire Departments responded to the 6700 block of West Elkton Road for a crash involving serious injuries.

The Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (S.T.A.R.T.) was also called to the scene, Jones reported.

“Upon arrival it was discovered that two vehicles, a 2005 Pontiac, operated by a 16-year-old male, and occupied by a 13-year-old female, traveled left of center striking a 2013 Chevrolet Suburban occupied by a 60-year-old male, head-on, resulting in serious injuries and one fatality,” the release continued. “The 13-year-old female passenger of the Pontiac sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported by Careflight to Dayton Children’s Hospital. The 60-year-old male in the Chevrolet Suburban also sustained serious life-threatening injuries and was transported by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital. The 16-year-old male driver of the Pontiac was pronounced deceased on scene. This investigation is on-going.”

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families,” Jones stated.

The driver of the Suburban was identified as Kevin Johnson, a teacher in the Edgewood School District.
