Gasper Fire/EMS seeking additional levy

EATON — On Tuesday, Nov. 5, voters in Gasper Township are being asked to approve an additional tax to support the Gasper Township Fire and EMS, and officials are inviting them to one of two town halls to learn more.

Gasper Township Fire & EMS will host the two town halls to discuss Issue 32, a proposed additional tax levy for the benefit of Gasper Township for the purpose of emergency medical services.

According to officials, the Preble County Auditor estimates the additional levy will collect $144,000 annually, at a rate not exceeding 1 mill for each $1 taxable value, which amounts to $35 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value, for five years, commencing in 2024, first due in calendar year 2025.

Gasper Township Fire & EMS reports the additional funding is needed for continued staffing of 24/7 emergency service coverage, rising costs in supplies, maintenance and contracted services.

The first town hall will take place at the Gasper Township Firehouse, 4195 Paint Creek Rd., Eaton, on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 9 a.m.

A second town hall will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 9 a.m., at Lakengren Lodge, 210 Norwegian Drive, Eaton.
