Thunderbolts fall 45-0 to first place Centerville

CENTERVILLE — Parker Johnson rushed for 105 yards on 21 carries with three touchdowns, Shane Cole had 69 yards and two TDs on 10 carries and Ethan Ireland scored one TD as Centerville rolled to a 45-0 victory over Northmont.

With the victory the Elks remain in a three-way tie for first place in the Greater Western Ohio Conference along with Fairmont and Springfield with identical 4-1 conference records.

Centerville amassed 337 total yards while limiting Northmont to 100. The Elks throttled Northmont’s ground game limiting the Thunderbolts to just 36 yards rushing, 23 of which came from quarterback Brady Lupton.

Lupton completed two of six pass attempts for 16 yards while Bryce Staggs completed seven of 13 for 48 yards. Elks’ quarterback Shane Cole completed 12 of 15 attempts for 126 yards.

Johnson and Cole both scored first quarter touchdowns to put the Elks up, 14-0. Leland Gantz kicked a 29 yard field goal to open the second quarter.

Cole followed with a two yard TD run and Johnson scored on runs of nine and eight yards to give Centerville a 38-0 halftime lead.

Ireland scored on an eight yard run with 4:03 left in the third quarter and Gantz kick capped the scoring.

With the loss Northmont fell to 1-4 in conference play and 2-6 overall. Miamisburg remains last in the conference at 0-5 and 1-7.

Northmont travels to Miamisburg this Friday and then closes regular season play at home on Thursday, Oct. 24 vs. Springfield.
