ENGLEWOOD — A house fire Wednesday that was reported at approximately 9 a.m. at the northeast corner of Wolf Avenue and Albert Street resulted in two people injured and the death of one of four dogs in the home.

When crews of the Clayton-Englewood-Union Fire Collaborative arrived at the scene, they found heavy fire coming from the home. The fire spread rapidly causing significant damage.

Englewood Fire Chief Anthony Terrace said that two residents of the home suffered burns were transported to area hospitals for treatment. He said the residents were asleep when the fire broke out.

Three of the four dogs survived, but one died from smoke inhalation.

There was heavy damage to the front entrance of the home and smoke was also coming from the back. According to Terrace, the home sustained significant damage and was uninhabitable.

One room survived the flames because the door was closed. Fire crews urge all area residents to close their bedroom doors when they go to bed, stating, “Close before you doze.” Closed doors create a barrier that can protect against heat, smoke, and flames.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and remains under investigation. The residents were still in the hospital as of Thursday morning, according to Terrace.
