Northmont Board highlights new marketing program

CLAYTON — At the Northmont Board of Education meeting at the middle school on Monday, Sept. 9, Marketing Teacher Kimberly Boeh introduced the district’s new middle school marketing program.

Boeh’s presentation outlined the curriculum, which includes lessons on advertising strategies, celebrity endorsements, pricing models, and other core marketing concepts. The program is part of Northmont’s broader effort to expose students to a variety of career paths.

Superintendent Tony Thomas provided updates on several district activities and initiatives.

● Spanish Immersion Experience: High school Spanish students, under the guidance of teacher Michelle Brock, visited a kindergarten classroom at the Kleptz Early Learning Center where they read self-authored Spanish-language books to younger students. The initiative provided both the high schoolers and kindergarteners with a valuable, hands-on learning experience.

● Community Events: Two important events are scheduled for this week: the Northmoor Elementary BBQ on Thursday, and the First Grade BBQ at the Kleptz Early Learning Center on Friday. These gatherings foster community engagement and offer families a chance to interact with school staff.

● Bus Evacuation Drills: Safety drills will take place this week as part of the district’s ongoing commitment to student safety.

● CIT Family Night: The Northmont Curriculum Department is hosting a Family Night at the Kleptz Early Learning Center (KELC) on Thursday, September 12 at 6 p.m. The evening will focus on providing parents with tools to better support their children’s educational journey.

● New Menu Boards: The high school cafeteria recently installed new TV menu boards to improve the flow of lunch traffic, aiming to streamline the student lunch experience.

Mr. Thomas went on to share that Northmont’s athletics programs continue to excel:

● The girls volleyball team is currently ranked 14th in the state.

● Boys soccer secured an impressive victory over Centerville.

● The girls cross country team placed runner-up in two major invitational meets.

In addition to these sports achievements, Innovative Robotics gave a presentation to the high school physics classes, offering a hands-on look at real-world applications of STEM education.

Looking ahead, Unity Day is scheduled for next week, emphasizing school-wide collaboration and teamwork in creating a culture at Northmont High School where every student belongs.

Finally, ten students were selected to participate in a new mentorship program with Bottom Line, where they will coach and support first-generation college-attending students. The program will likely expand to include more students and provide mentorship throughout their college years.

Mr. Thomas told the board that a district team recently visited Huber Heights’ combined central office and preschool. The visit provided an opportunity to observe and implement new operational improvements within Northmont’s own schools.

As the meeting wrapped up, Board President Linda Blum expressed her gratitude for Northmont’s School Resource Officers (SROs) in light of the recent school shooting in Georgia.

Blum noted the essential role they play in ensuring the safety of students and staff every day. “We, at Northmont, are extremely appreciative of our SROs. They know our students. Our community sends their children to our schools and expects them to come home every day. And we expect our staff to come home every day, too. This is very difficult and extremely sad,” Blum said.

The next meeting of the Northmont Board of Education will be Monday, September 23 at 6 p.m. at the Northmont Middle School.
