Lewisburg woman’s mission: promoting southern gospel music

LEWISBURG — Sharon Kouts loves gospel music and has begun organizing events to share that music as a way to share the gospel message. Joining the Southern Gospel Promoters Association in September 2023 has helped her meet up-and-coming artists at association showcases and widen her knowledge of the music industry.

Kouts promotes her events by placing flyers throughout Lewisburg and with audiences at southern gospel music events within 1.5-hour radius of Lewisburg and reaching into Kentucky and Indiana; through Facebook and text announcements to a growing contacts list. As an incentive for concert attendees, she gives away one free CD at every concert.

Concerts to date include artists Mark Bishop, Scotty Inman, Down East Boys, The Guardians, Lauren Talley, Divinity Trio, Brian Free and Assurance.

On Nov. 9, she will host her first women’s conference and open-to-all concert event: DOVE — Daughters of Virtue Embraced. She has begun advance promotion for this women’s conference event which will also have a standalone concert open to all at the First United Church of Christ, 400 N. Main Street, Lewisburg.

The DOVE Women’s Conference will run 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, with two speaker sessions featuring Sherry Anne and Sharon LaBella, coffee hour and a light lunch. Tickets are $10, and women can pre-register until Nov. 1, by calling Kouts at 937-475-7941.

The standalone, open-to-all concert with Sherry Anne will begin at 1 p.m. Admission is free, but a love offering will be accepted. Everyone is welcome.
