Camden man dies in crash

CAMDEN — A Camden resident dies as a result of a single-vehicle crash on Tuesday, Sept. 3, according to Preble County Sheriff Mike Simpson.

Preble County Sheriff’s deputies investigated the fatal crash which occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m. last Tuesday evening, on County Road 227, north of Swan Beatty Road.

According to Simpson, the preliminary investigation found “a 2019 Nissan pick-up truck was northbound on CR 227 when it left the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a guardrail and traveled over an embankment and into Seven Mile Creek.”

The driver of the vehicle, Robert Stang, 74, of Camden, was pronounced dead at the scene, Simpson said in a press release on Thursday, Sept. 5. “He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash,” he noted.

Stang was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office where an autopsy was to be performed on Thursday, according to Simpson.

CR 227 remained closed for several hours while deputies conducted their investigation and the vehicle was removed from the creek.

Camden Somers Township Fire and EMS, Gasper Township Fire and EMS, Eaton Fire Division and the Milford Township Fire Department responded to the scene, according to Simpson.

The crash remained under investigation by the Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Preble County Coroner’s Office at press time.
