Rockets blast past Brookville in second quarter

ANNA — Using a 27-point second quarter, 20 of them in less than four minutes, Anna downed the Brookville Blue Devils 46-20 in week two of the high school season. The Rockets are now 2-0 and Brookville drops to 1-1.

The game was tied at six when Alex Shappie scored on a quarterback sneak at the 9:02 mark on 4th down from the one to make the score 12-6 Rockets.

Brookville fumbled on its next play and the Rockets recovered at the Blue Devils 42. Aaron Shappie scored on the first play around right end. His kick made the score 19-6.

Getting the ball back Anna moved quickly and Alex Shappie scored on a 27-yard run and it was suddenly 26-6 Rockets with 5:10 left in the first half.

Brookville would get a 30-yard run by D.J. Moore and converted a two-point conversion on a pass from Bayne Boston to Moore and it was 26-14. However, the Rockets scored with 17.3 seconds left in the half when Zach Osborn grabbed a short pass from Alex Shappie and turned it into a touchdown from the ten making the halftime score 33-14.

The game was effectively decided on the first snap of the second half when Anna forced a fumble and Zach Osborn picked up the ball and rumbled 15 yards for a touchdown making the score 40-14.

With 7:19 left in the third frame Jayden Resor scored from the one for Brookville on a quarterback sneak making it 40-20 Anna. The Rockets got the final points of the game when Osborn scored his third touchdown of the game on an 11-yard scamper. The final score was 46-20.

Alex Shappie threw a pair of TD passes and ran for another as he had 168 yards passing. Shappie also ran for another 113 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns. The Rockets outgained Brookville 425 to 276, had 71 plays to 53 for Brookville, and scored 14 points off two Brookville fumbles while not turning the ball over at all.

Brookville had 135 yards rushing with Walt Adams getting 62 and D..J Moore 47. Brookville also passed for 141 yards with Resor going 7-9 for 101 yards and a TD and Boston two of three for 40 yards and a PAT.

Defensively Walt Adams had seven tackles and Sam Norby and Brayden Reich 5.5 stops.

Game notes show it was the 31st Brookville has scored 20 points and the 4th time the points totaled 66. It was also only the second time Brookville lost 46-20, the other against Trotwood in 1961.

Brookville will host Graham Friday night and the Blue Devils will honor Coy Hyre for winning the 100 Meter and the 200 Meter State Championship in 2024 and will also honor all Brookville athletes who ever placed at the state track meet. The game will be Broadcast on Brookvillesports.com, a free internet website beginning at 6:30 p.m.
