Overdose Awareness & Remembrance Ceremony

The Preble County Mental Health & Recovery Board in collaboration with the Preble County Substance Abuse Prevention Partnership invites the public to attend its 2nd Annual Remembrance Ceremony to bring awareness to the lives lost in the community to overdose. R-H closed for Labor Day

The Register-Herald’s business offices, including customer service, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen for business on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Parkinson’s Awareness Walk

A Parkinson’s Awareness Walk will be held at Centennial Park in Englewood on Saturday, Sept. 7. This family-friendly event will support our focus on health and wellness for those with Parkinson’s disease, and for those who care for and support individuals with Parkinson’s. All proceeds will support Premier Health’s Parkinson’s Wellness Program within our local community. Registration is free (donations appreciated) and opens at 9:30 a.m. A one-mile walk begins at 10:30 a.m. There will be information booths, health screenings, exercise demos, raffles, and food trucks at the event. Brookville Historical Society offers tours

The Brookville Historical Society’s Spitler House Museum at 14 Market Street, the Exhibit Building at 3 Hay Avenue, and the Depot Museum on Cusick will be open on Sunday, September 8, from 2 until 4 p.m., with the last tours starting at 3 p.m. On display are special photos at the Spitler House showing the move of the house from Hay Avenue to Market Street. Bruce Bloom will again have his train set up outside the Depot Museum and giving rides for a donation. The Historical Society is in the process of replacing the flat roof at the Exhibit Building, and it may not be open this month. Suggested donation is $2 for adults, 50 cents for students ages 6 to 16, and for children under 6 free when accompanied by an adult at each location.

Matter of Balance workshop offered

Goodwill Easter Seals will be hosting a Matter of Balance workshop at the Earl Heck Center beginning on Sept. 13. This award-winning program is designed teach older adults practical strategies to manage falls and increase activity levels. Anyone concerned about falls and interested in improving their balance should consider participating in this workshop. The workshop will be held on Friday from 1-3 p.m. for eight consecutive weeks. Mental Health First Aid-Youth Training

PCMHRB is hosting a Youth Mental Health First Aid training on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches adults how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. The training is from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and breakfast and refreshments will be provided. PC BOE special meeting scheduled

The Preble County Board of Elections will conduct a special meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, for the purpose of election business and other business brought before the board. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m., in the board’s conference room at 532 N. Barron Street, in Eaton.

AMV field trip to farm in Camden

AudubonMV will host a field trip to the Frank House Farm, in Camden, on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m.-noon. Participants will meet at the Frank House Farm, 7611 Camden Sugar Valley Dr., Camden. The farm includes 100 acres of preserved woodland, prairie, and riparian corridors. Trip leader is Randy Morgan, former AMV Board member and retired entomologist from the Cincinnati Zoo. Road closure

The Preble County Engineer’s Office reports Wolfrey Road (between mailbox 8557 and Ohio 121,) beginning at Ohio 121 and ending at New Paris-Eldorado Road, is closed for a total bridge replacement. The road will be closed for approximately 10 weeks (approximately Oct. 10.) The road will be closed to all through traffic. Emergency personnel and buses will not be permitted.

Tornado siren testing in Preble County

For the 2024 tornado siren testing season, sirens in Preble County will be tested on the first Wednesday of each month at noon, weather permitting. In the event of inclement weather, testing will not occur and sirens will be tested the following month.
