Lady Bolts tennis team wins two of three matches

CLAYTON — Northmont’s girls tennis team defeated non-conference opponent Troy 3-2 on Monday and suffered a 4-1 conference loss to Beavercreek on Tuesday.

Against Beavercreek senior Lily Braswell scored the Lady Bolts lone win by defeating senior Victoria Contreras 6-1, 6-4 in first singles play.

At second singles senior Tyler Buxton lost a hard fought match to Beavercreek senior Abby Hann 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.

Beavercreek junior Reilly Franke defeated Addison Wilson in third singles play and in doubles play Izzy Cline and Natalie Rickabaugh defeated Daisy Carpenter and Ashley Weiss and at second doubles Marcella Minehart and Mia Watz defeated Mya Smedley and Madison Evans.

“All players showed great determination and sportsmanship throughout their matches,” said Northmont coach Sarah McGonigle.

The Lady Bolts bounced back with a 4-1 non-conference win over Tecumseh on Wednesday to improve their record to 4-3 overall.

Tyler Buxton at 2nd singles defeated Abby Manning 6-0, 6-0 and Mya Smedley/ Madison Evans at 2nd doubles did not give up a single game winning 6-0, 6-0

Addison Wilson at 3rd singles played hard winning in a super tiebreak 6-3, 2-6, (10-8) against Shyla Thomson.

At first doubles Daisy Carpenter and Ashley Weiss tried some new styles of play and were successful, winning 6-0, 6-2.

Lily Braswell had a tough loss at 1st singles to Sammy Russell 4-6, 5-7.

“Both players fought hard and played really great points,” McGonigle said.

Northmont plays at Greenville on Monday, at Springfield on Tuesday and at Sidney on Wednesday.
