Brookville cross county teams off and running

COLUMBUS — The Brookville boys and girls XC teams competed Saturday, Aug. 17, at the OHSAA Invitational at Fortress Obetz.

The girls were paced by medalist Dylan Ballin. They finished 12th out of 39 exceptional teams. Also scoring varsity points for Brookville were Cayleigh Tipton, Hunter Gardner, Serenity Suggs, Kyra Hope, Bree Fowler, Savannah Young, & Seraphine Deardurff.

The boys were led by medalist Lucas Tipton pacing the team to 24th place out of 44 teams. The other varsity runners were Luuk Fokkink, Logan Wright, Chase Puskas, Sam Seitz, Drew Stammen, Evan Pentecost, Beck Fowler, Greyson Florkey, & Dylan Meyers.

“It was a very difficult day and the boys & girls showed some mental toughness to work through some adversity,” said Brookville coach Jon Bland.

Tuesday at the Dixie Invitational the Brookville girls placed 2nd out of six teams and the boys placed 3rd out of seven teams.

“The boys and girls teams finished well using a split squad,” Bland said. “We ran some of our varsity on Saturday and some of our varsity for this meet. The depth of our team is very good allowing us to do this and still compete very well! “

The girls were led by race runner-up Ella Renner. Other medalists for Brookville were Seraphine Deardurff, Lindsay Rieder, Nora Dunkle, & Kayln Combs. Also running well for the girls – Maddie Allen, Ava Ullery and Alexis Stegner.

“Our girls depth is good and it showed tonight,” Bland noted.

The boys were paced by a solid 5th place from Christian Seitz who is returning from injury and looking better every day. Also earning a medal for Brookville was Blake Stacy who finished in 12th.

Alex Waggoner, Warrick Deardurff, Carson Barr, Jacob Balcom, and Colton Harris rounded out the varsity scoring. Also competing well were Trent Barr, Skylar Logan, & Ben Manley.

“Our guys worked very hard and will be very competitive in the meets to come,” Bland added.
