Guess What’s New in Reading?

Feel like taking a walk to the dark side this summer? Sun too bright for you? There are many great reads out for both young adults and seasoned adults. Lots of readers tend to stick to just one or two genres; why don’t you spread your wings and fly on the wild side?

From Below — by Horror and Suspense USA Best-Selling author Darcy Coates. An intro to the dark side of fiction by the author of more than a dozen horror and suspense novels. Have you ever wondered what was in the lake below as you were enjoying a swim with your friends? Kind of like that!

The Three-Body Problem — by Cixin Liu. First one in a series of three. (The Remembrance of Earth’s Past Trilogy) This one is deep, and I’m not talking about water here. Shall I say, for the engineer who loves to read? Winner of the Hugo Award (considered widely as the premier award in the science fiction genre.) It is also the inspiration for the popular Netflix series.

China’s cultural revolution is the backdrop of a secret military project attempting to contact aliens. They are successful; however, an alien civilization intercedes the signal in the hopes to stave off their destruction. In response, groups on earth plan to either welcome the new beings or fight against them. Which would you choose?

Half-Blood – by Jennifer L. Armentrout. First in her Covenant Series. Seventeen-year-old Alex and her mom are on the run from the Covenant, a school where half-mortal teens train to kill daimons. When Alex’s mom is murdered by daimons (“things” that thrive and feed on aether, they are purebloods who have turned their backs on the gods and one of the things Alex is obligated to kill on sight) she goes back to the Covenant to either continue her training or become a servant for the Pures. She eventually learns the true reason why her mother got her away from the Covenant as the daimons close in.

Far From Home — by Kate L. Mary – Book One of the Far Series. If you liked “The 100” series which aired on the CW, you’ll enjoy this series! Friends Rowan & Kiaya are away at college when a deadly virus hits the whole country. They end up stranded in a small town in Texas and discover the virus isn’t just killing people, it’s turning them into zombies! Join Rowan and Kiaya and Devon, a former cop they encounter along the way, as they travel Route 66 and fight to survive.

Gild — by Raven Kennedy. Book One in the Plated Prisoner Series. The Myth of King Midas is reimagined. This is dark adult fantasy and not intended for anyone under 18 years of age. To quote the author, “…I wanted to take the myth and turn it on its head for my own unique twist. I knew I was going to take a story about a man…and instead, tell it through the eyes of a woman.” This book is just the beginning – so get started!
