BROOKVILLE — City manager Jack Kuntz announced the Brookville bulletin insert which will go into all city utility bills starting in July.
“This new insert serves as a mini-newsletter, informing the community of recent city council happenings, as well as activities occurring in the parks and other city departments,” Kuntz said.
Kuntz advised part of the insert will be used “to assist in promoting local businesses.”
“Residents will see the insert in the summer and winter utility bill this year and it will be increased to every quarterly bill in 2025,” Kuntz said.
“Staff will also place the one-page newsletter in various businesses and community areas throughout Brookville, as well as in the lobby at the municipal building,” Kuntz added.
In other matters, Kuntz advised council staff recently had a pre-construction meeting with the officials of Casey’s General store and fueling facility to be constructed at 945 Arlington Road.
Council approved the record plan for the proposed facility on Nov. 21, 2023.
Council’s approval came on the heels of planning commissions approval of the site and record plan presented by the company at the Nov. 16, 2023, planning commission meeting.
The store will be built on two parcels of land consisting of 3.4 acres, located at the corner of Arlington Road and Campus Boulevard.
“The proposed project for Casey’s is to construct a 4,350 square foot convenience store with a 2,500 square foot automobile fueling canopy over four double-sided fuel dispensers and a three-lane 1,700 square foot diesel fueling canopy,” Brookville Law Director Rod Stephan said at the planning commission meeting.
Stephan said driveway access to the business will take place from Arlington Road and West Campus Boulevard “as set forth in the project description and site plan.”
In addition to a general store and fueling facility, Casey’s is also well known for its pizza.
“Casey’s is the fifth largest pizza provider in the country,” Bob Sweet, consulting firm McBride Dale Clarion, of Cincinnati, representing Casey’s, said at the Nov. 16, 2023 planning commission meeting.
“They make fresh pizza in all their stores. They have pizzas that you can order by phone or computer and then pick up,” Sweet added.
Kuntz indicated construction “will commence in July and should take approximately 18-20 weeks.”
Kuntz also announced that staff recently found old VHS tapes of when President George H.W. Bush visited the Community Picnic at Golden Gate Park in 1992.
“We found a company to convert the VHS tape to electronic form and have placed it on the city’s Facebook page and the city’s website,” Kuntz said.
