Lady Bolts fall to Fairmont

CLAYTON — Northmont’s girls basketball team played a competitive game Wednesday night at home against Fairmont but ended up losing by ten points.

The Lady Bolts led 5-3 after one quarter, trailed 13-10 at halftime and 22-19 after three quarters. Fairmont outscored Northmont 15-8 in the final stanza to post 37-27 victory.

Sophomore guard Kayla Thornton led Fairmont with 14 points. Sophomore forward Lena Buskard snared 13 rebounds, nine defensive, while sophomore guard Nico Cornett had nine steals and senior guard Kenzi Roark seven.

The Lady Firebirds capitalized on 33 Northmont turnovers to earn the win.

Brenna Williams, a junior center, led the Lady Bolts with eight points and eight rebounds.

Neither team shot particularly well: Fairmont 26 percent (13-50) and Northmont 28 percent (9-32). Fairmont sank 11 of 21 free throws while Northmont sank seven of 11.

Fairmont, which is in second place overall in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, improved to 9-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Northmont fell to 3-9 overall and 1-7 in GWOC play.
