The following information has been provided by Northmont area police departments. The information listed in this column is considered public record and is available to anyone seeking information concerning what is provided below.

For purposes of this column, the term “arrested” or “charged” does not necessarily mean the person was taken into physical custody. It could also indicate that a summons was issued to the subject in lieu of physical custody.

All the people listed as “arrested” or “charged” are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Tuesday, March 28, Brookville 23-00121: Two women from Brookville reported missing in New Mexico were found alive and well in a remote area that had no cell phone service. Their car got stuck in mud 17 miles east of Beaverhead on Forest Road 59. The women attempted to free the vehicle from the mud but were unsuccessful. They hiked about four miles and found a cabin where they spent the night. They returned to their vehicle in the morning and a short time later they were found due to the efforts by the FBI and deputies with the Sierra County and Catron County Sheriff’s Offices.

Saturday, April 1, Brookville 23-00126: An officer responded to the 7700 block of Wellbaum Rd. for a car crash. A man driving a 2000 Ford Focus was traveling north and did not see that a tree had fallen into the roadway. He did not brake in time and struck the tree damaging the front end and suspension.

Brookville 23-00127: Police served two warrants at an apartment at 60 Ridge Road. Brian K. Williams, 57, of Brookville and Alice A. Smith, 65, of Brookville, were both arrested on warrants for obstructing official business. They were taken into custody and transported to the county jail.

Monday, April 3, Clayton 23-0000345: An unknown subject entered an unlocked pickup truck parked on Elin Court, opened the center console and removed approximately 90 antianxiety pills from a prescription bottle and two packs of Winston cigarettes.

Clayton 23-0000351: Breaking and entering to a shed was reported in the 6500 block of Taywood Rd. Two chainsaws were stolen along with three chainsaw bars and three chains. A surveillance camera captured photographs of an unknow male subject walking around on the property. A neighboring property owner on Seville Drive reported seeing two white males on the victim’s property that were snooping around a trailer that was parked there. The neighbor asked the two males what they were doing, and they stated they were looking for firewood. The neighbor said the males arrived in an older rusted red Chevy pickup truck. Another neighbor stated a passenger from a similar truck towing a yellow stump grinder approached his residence asking if he had any stumps that needed grinding.

Tuesday, April 4, Clayton 23-0000357: A resident of Melody Road was issued a criminal warning for burning waste in his yard in violation of city codified ordinance 531.51. The resident was warned that if he burns waste again he would be cited.

Wednesday, April 5, Brookville 23-00129: An officer stopped a GMC Savana minivan on Westbrook Road for an inoperable license plate light. After making contact with the driver, he stated he was aware his plate light was out because he was cited for the violation while driving back from Florida last week. While speaking to the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver admitted to smoking marijuana a few hours earlier and then handed the officer a small Tupperware container containing raw marijuana that he had stored in the front dash. When the officer asked if there was anything else in the van he needed to know about, the driver stated he had a firearm and reached for the center console. The officer instructed the driver to keep his arms up and exit the vehicle. Another officer stood with the driver while the vehicle was searched. A marijuana smoking pipe and two grinders were found in the front center console and the right passenger side door. A Smith & Wesson nine millimeter handgun was also found in the center console. John E. Kidd, 31, of Brookville, was charged with drug possession, no taillights and rear plate light required. He was issued a court summons and released.

Clayton 23-0000359: Police responded to a domestic complaint in the 6600 block Templehurst. A male subject said his wife bit him and hit him with a broom stick as he attempted to place some of his business equipment in the garage. The couple are in the process of separating and getting divorce. Police observed marks on his arms and head where he was struck and a bite mark on his arm. The victim refused to press charges.

Clayton 23-0000361: An unknown subject cut the catalytic converter off a work van parked at ‘At Your Service Pool and Spas.’

Clayton 23-0000362: Breaking and entering to a barn was reported in the 4400 block of Wenger Rd. A diamond plated toolbox containing ratchet straps and bag of tools and 54-inch Husqvarna mower were stolen.

Thursday, April 6, Clayton 23-0000367: Police responded to Hill Street for protection order violation complaint. Due to the circumstances pertaining to the incident, the complaint will be sent to Vandalia Municipal Court for review by a prosecutor.
