Softball roundup: North blanks South, 10-0 in 5 innings

PREBLE COUNTY — Freshman Jordan Pinion tossed a three-hitter to lead Tri-County North’s softball team to a run-rule victory over rival Twin Valley South on Tuesday, April 4.

Pinion walked one and struck out three in five innings of work.

She was helped on the offensive side with a four-run first and six-run third.

Five different players recorded two hits each for North.

Senior Angelia Depoy went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while sophomore Gracie Hemp added two hits, scored twice and drove in a run.

Junior Nicole Lefeld was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Pinion added two hits and drove in a run to help her cause and junior Hannah Webster had a pair of doubles, scored twice and drove in two runs.

For South, sophomore Maci Arndts, junior Abby Crouse and junior Makenzie Wise each had a hit.

North also lost to Eaton 4-3 on Friday and split a doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Troy 8-1 in the first game and beating host Tecumseh 14-6 in game two.

Against Eaton, North left the tying run stranded on third base in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Eaton took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third. North closed to within 3-2 in the top of the fourth. The Eagles extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth. The Panthers added a run in the first to make it a 4-3 game.

For Eaton, Olivia Baumann was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and an RBI. For the game, Eaton was limited to just four hits. The other hits came from Lily Garcia, Hannah Reddick and Sydnie Stewart.

North, which couldn’t take advantage of seven Eagle errors, had six hits. Bella Cherry had two hits and scored a run.

North is now 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference.

Eaton hosted St. Henry on Saturday and dropped both ends of the doubleheader, falling on game one 10-3 and 10-4 in the second game.

The Eagles are now 3-3 on the season.

Preble Shawnee split both of its games during Spring Break, beating Twin Valley South 12-1 on Monday, April 3 and falling to Union County (Ind.) 9-6 on Saturday.

Shawnee is now 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the WOAC.

Twin Valley South went 0-3 on the week. In addition to losses to North and Shawnee, the Panthers dropped a 16-1 decision Ansonia on Thursday, April 6.

South is now 2-4 on the season and 0-3 in the WOAC.

National Trail closed out its week with a 20-0 win over Trotwood on Saturday.

The Blazers are now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the WOAC.
