Baseball roundup: South’s Miller K’s 10 in win over North

PREBLE COUNTY — Gage Miller was dominant on the mound as the senior allowed just one hit and struck out 10 to lead Twin Valley South to a 4-0 win over host Tri-County North on Tuesday, April 4 in a Western Ohio Athletic Conference game.

South got the scoring started with two runs in the third and added singles runs in the fifth and seventh innings to hold on to the win.

Cais Kingsley went 2-for-4 with a double and triple and drove in a run. Miller added two hits and scored twice.

Colten Vanwinkle had the lone hit for North.

For the week, South went 2-2. They lost to Preble Shawnee 10-0 on Monday, April 3 and 7-5 to Ansonia on Thursday, April 6. The Panthers closed out the week with a 15-6 win over Emmanuel Christian on Friday.

North opened the week with an 11-10 win over Northridge and closed the week with a 10-0 loss to Bradford.

In addition to its win over South, Shawnee beat Franklin-Monroe, 4-1, on Tuesday, April 4.

National Trail won both its games last week, beating Mississinawa Valley 11-1 and Tri (Ind.), 7-3.

Eaton traveled south for its Spring Break trip and went 2-2 against some stiff competition.

The Eagles opened their Emerson, GA trip with a 5-1 win over Highlands (Ky.) on Monday, April 3.

JT Gels led the offense going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Gavin Winings added two hits.

On Tuesday, Eaton fell 11-6 to Rowen County (Ky.).

Brady Rice had two hits and an RBI and Brock Ebright added two hits, a run scored and an RBI.

Eaton picked up its second win of the trip with a 13-7 win over Harlan County (Ky.) on Wednesday.

Ebright was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Dillon Jerdon had a hit and two RBI. Xavier Mathews added two hits, including a triple and drove in a run. Rice had two hits and scored three times. Lucas Abner was 1-for-3 with an inside the park home run and two RBI.

Eaton closed out the trip with a 4-0 loss the Lincoln Way (Ill.) the defending Illinois Big School state champion, who have multiple players committed to play at the Division I level in college.

Abner, Jerdon and Winings each had hits for the Eagles.

Eaton is now 3-3 on the season.
