BROOKVILLE — The Brookville Optimist Club made a $1,000 donation to the Brookville Park Board.

Brookville Optimist Club President Roger Hoover presented the check to park board president Adam Blevins at the park board’s March 14 meeting.

The Optimist Club made the donation in thanks to the park board for once again providing assistance in the Optimist’s 17th annual all-night adult egg scramble held March 11 in Golden Gate Park.

The park board is a co-sponsor, along with Brookville VFW Post 3288, of the annual event.

The evening event consists of the first 170 pre-paid entries scrambling through the park searching, with the help of flashlights, for valuable eggs.

Hoover noted despite the darkness, there was no reports of any lost adults when the event ended.

After the eggs were collected, the participants took them to the VFW Post at 210 Carr Drive where they enjoyed music, dancing and other fun activities.

Door prizes were given away and a 50-50 drawing was conducted.

Hoover said $540 of the donation to the park board came from the 50-50 drawing.

“Every year at the egg scramble you guys supply people to do our 50-50 drawing and this year the 50-50 drawing was worth $540 on the split. We even sold out of tickets. It was really a great night,” Hoover told the park board members.

“The Optimist board met March 13 and decided to increase the $540 to an even $1,000 to give to the park board to use however you want,” Hoover continued.

“We appreciate the use of the park that has gone well for a very long time,” Hoover said.

Hoover noted the annual egg scramble has always been successful because Golden Gate Park is one of the best-kept and functional parks in the area.

“We have a tremendous draw to Golden Gate Park. We are drawing people from all over the area to the park. We draw from Sidney, Miamisburg and Covington, They are very happy with the park. It’s a showcase to tell people what we have in Brookville,” Hoover said.

Park board member Carolyn Haney echoed Hoover’s comment.

“I helped sell tickets and a guy came up and gave us an extra $20 and said he just loves the park,” Haney said.

Blevins thanked Hoover and the Optimists for the donation.

“We are very thankful to you as a group and the event as a whole,” Blevins said.
