Volunteers sought for Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Over 850 meals were served last year during the 28th annual Preble County Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Some 74 volunteers assisted with cooking and meal preparation for the event which was a drive-through and pick up, or delivery event. This year’s event is returning to its traditions of being an in-person, served meal at Bruner Arena on Thanksgiving Day.

EATON — Planning for the 29th Annual Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Bruner Arena on the Preble County Fairgrounds is underway, and organizers with the Miami Valley Community Action Partnership are seeking volunteers to help make the day a success.

For the first time since the pandemic shut down in-person events, the dinner will be an in-person, sit-down meal.

According to Preble County MVCAP Director Janelle Caron, there will be no need for reservations for the meal which will be prepared on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28. Dinner will be served from noon-2 p.m.

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to call Caron at 937-456-2800 prior to Nov. 15.

This free dinner is made possible through donations and help from many volunteers. Anyone who would like additional information, would like to volunteer, or wish to donate, should contact Caron at MVCAP.

“Thanks to the many volunteers and donors who help with the Community Thanksgiving Dinner each year,” Caron noted in a recent press release.

Anyone who cannot get out to attend in person can call 937-456-2800 as well to have a meal delivered. Since this will be an eat-in event, the organization will not be taking orders for pickup or carry-out.

With the help of donations from community members, and the collaboration of dozens of volunteers, over 850 meals were served last year during the 28th annual Preble County Community Thanksgiving Dinner last year. Some 74 volunteers assisted with cooking and meal preparation for the event which was a drive-through and pick up, or delivery event. According to Caron, 330 meals were delivered by volunteer drives and 400 were preordered for pickup in 2023. An additional 123 meals which had not been preordered were also given out last year.
