Northmont girls golf finishes strong at sectional

XENIA — The final event of the season for the Northmont girls varsity golf team ended the season in sectional tournament play at WGC Golf Course in Xenia with four girls posting personal best scores.

First year senior Addyson Wissing posted a solid 112 which was 17 shots better than her season low for 18 holes.

Second year sophomore Elizabeth Calhoun shot 111 to continue her great play.

First year senior Laynee Barrett ended with an amazing 105. This was an amazing score considering she started playing golf three months ago.

Third year junior Sydney Schmaltz shot an impressive 104 to end the season with a bang.

All four scores were personal best rounds and was a great way to finish off the season.

Third year junior Megan Fosburg carded a cool 87 which put her in a tie for 19th place out of over 100 other players. She ended three shots shy of making it to District but will be highly motivated to come back even stronger for her senior season next year.

Coach John Lemmon was very impressed with how the team finished.

“It was really fun watching the girls compete in Sectionals,” Lemmon said. “The four personal best scores were very impressive! The team never quit and made the most of this last event. Laynee’s 105 was the most shocking. If you told me at the beginning of the season that she would shoot that low I am not sure I would have believed you. This was a great ending to a wonderful golf season!”
