Eaton sweeps Arrows in boys, girls soccer DH

EATON — Eaton’s boys and girls soccer teams completed a sweep of visiting Preble Shawnee on Monday, Sept. 30.

Both teams pitched a shutout, with the boys opening the doubleheader with a 7-0 win, while the girls rolled to a 5-0 win in the nightcap.

Senior Jordan Downs netted five goals to help the Eagles even their record at 6-6-1.

Downs scored just two minutes into the game on a penalty kick, which was the only goal of the first half.

In the second half, Downs scored just 23 seconds in to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Less than four minutes later senior Tanner Dungan extend Eaton’s lead to 3-0.

The scored stayed that way for the next 20-plus minutes before Downs found the back of the next for the third time.

Downs nailed his third goal with 14:47 left for a 4-0 lead. Freshman Billy Bruce scored at the 11:02 mark for a 5-0 lead.

Downs scored the final two goals at 7:03 and 1:50 remaining.

For the game, Eaton took 22 shots on goal, while limiting the Arrows to just five.

In the girls’ game, Myla Roberts and Adie Heggs each tallied two goal to lead the Eagles to their seventh win of the season.

Jaelinn Miller got the scoring started with a goal at the 33:44 mark of the first half. Roberts added her first goal of the contest with 7:03 left in the first half for a 2-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Roberts scored 18 minutes in for a 3-0 lead. Heggs closed out the scoring with a goal at the 6:28 mark and with 3:31 left.

Eaton had 14 shots on goal.

With the win, Eaton’s girls moved to 7-4-3 on the season. The Eagles were scheduled to host Waynesville on Thursday, Oct. 3 and will host Greenville on Monday, Oct. 7.

Shawnee, which beat National Trail 5-0 on Tuesday to win the Western Ohio Athletic Conference, is now 8-3-3 overall.

The Arrows are scheduled to host Dixie on Tuesday, Oct. 8 and will close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Carlisle.

On the boys’ side, Eaton was scheduled to travel to Waynesville on Thursday an will play at Talawanda on Monday, Oct. 7. They will host Tri-County North on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Preble Shawnee, which has battled injuries the past for weeks, is now 5-7. The Arrows will are scheduled to play at Dixie on Oct. 8, host Stivers on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and wrap up the regular season at Carlisle on Saturday, Oct. 12.
