Eaton’s McCarty advances to district

CENTERVILLE – Eaton senior Gabe McCarty carded an 83 to finish 13th overall at the Southwest Division II boys sectional golf tournament on Thursday, Sept. 26 at The Golf Club at Yankee Trace.

McCarty’s round qualified him for this week’s district tournament, which was scheduled to be played on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at PipeStone Golf Club.

McCarty, who shot a 41 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine, was the lone area golfer to advance. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team moved on.

Preble Shawnee finished 11th as a team, shooting 398, Eaton was 12th with a 405 and Brookville finished 13th with a 415.

For Preble Shawnee, Chance Mowen led the way with a 90, which was good for 27th overall and just four shots shy of advancing. Levi Agee shot a 93, Carson Hollon shot 104, William Gulley shot 111 and Gage Powers had a 116.

In addition to McCarty, Eaton was led by Maxon Elstro and Evan Seider, who both shot 107. Landon Ozbun shot 108 and Joel Appledorn shot 111.

For Broovkille, Troy Peak shot a 99 to the lead the Blue Devils. Daelon Wackerman shot 100, Jackson Kleismit shot 109, Lukas Osswald shot 110 and Brody Schondelmyer shot a 119.

The top two teams and top two individuals not a qualifying team will advance to the state tournament in Akron at the Firestone Country Club on Oct. 13-14.
