CARLISLE — Hurricane Helene brought her ferocious fury and soaked Ohio, among many other states, with high winds and torrential rain that resulted in power outages, downed trees, postponed events, and disruption of many lives proving Mother Nature remains undefeated.

However, football is played in all sorts of weather and despite the elements Brookville and Carlisle battled on a muddy, swamp like grass field in Warren County on Friday night. The result was a Brookville 28-8 victory over Carlisle in a quagmire.

The game started an hour late because of the weather.

It did not start out well for Brookville. The Blue Devils punted and Blake Lawson picked up the ball at the Indians 29, turned up field, sloshed his way to his right, broke contain, and rambled all the way to the end zone for a touchdown.

Carlisle eschewed a kick try and quarterback Kolby Morgerson rolled right and when the defense came up, he tossed a pass to Ethan Hamm who stepped into the end zone to make the score 8-0 Carlisle with 9:27 on the scoreboard.

After an exchange of punts Brookville had the ball at the Blue Devils 16. D.J. Moore was given the ball and he broke around left end, got some good blocks, and raced down the sideline in front of the Brookville bench and took the ball into the end zone.

Brookville went for two but the slippery pigskin went through the hands of a Blue Devil receiver and the score was 8-6 Carlisle with 2:07 remaining in the first period.

Brookville had an 11 play, 80-yard drive, which resulted in Jayden Resor scoring on a five-yard run with 6:08 remaining in the first half. Resor then scored the two-point conversion and Brookville took the lead, 14-8.

Late in the second frame Brookville got the ball at its 31 following a punt. On the first play Resor took the ball on a jet sweep and he was only touched with rain drops as circled the end and raced down the sideline for a touchdown. Moore ran in the two-point conversion and Brookville now led 22-6 with 50 seconds remaining in the first half.

In the final period Jake Lenser intercepted a pass at the Carlisle 24 and returned the ball to the Indians 16. Lenser carried the ball three times and completed the drive as he pushed his way into the end zone with Indians draped over him.

A two-point conversion run failed and Brookville led 28-8 at Laughlin Field. Just 7:59 remained in the game.

Carlisle then moved the ball down the field but was finally stopped on downs and Brookville took a knee to end the contest.

Brookville is now 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in the SWBL Buckeye Division. Carlisle dropped to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the SWBL Buckeye Division.

Game Notes from Brookville Football Historian Larry Myers show that Brookville is now 34 and 12 against Carlisle and has won the last nine meetings of the two teams on the gridiron. It is the second time Brookville has won a football game 28-8. The previous time was in 2014 against Franklin.

Brookville will host Oakwood Friday night. Brookvillesports.com will broadcast the game beginning at 6:30 pm on the internet for free.
