Lady Devils soccer defeats Tri-County North

BROOKVILLE — With a 5-1 non-league victory Monday over Tri-County North the Lady Devils soccer team improved to 5-3-1 overall.

Brookville took a 1-0 lead at 25:51 in the first half on a goal by sophomore Alyssa Lackey. Tri-County North answered at 19:26 with a goal by senior Madison Jeffers off an assist by freshman Reese Myers.

Jeffers is tied for the most goals in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference with 12 along with junior Gwen Holbrook of Newton and sophomore Kelsie Maggard of Twin Valley South. Myers is tied with junior Aubrey Unger of Preble Shawnee for most points with 31, both players having 11 goals and nine assists.

From there the Lady Devils took control of the game. Team Captain Grace Taylor, a senior, scored on a penalty kick at 17:38 to put Brookville up 2-1. Taylor scored again off an assist by Lackey at 12:28 to put the Lady Devils up 3-1 at halftime.

Freshman Kinley Kummer and junior Maddie Tarkany scored second half goals to cap the 5-1 victory. Freshman goalkeeper Helena Brown made eight saves while allowing one goal.

Taylor leads the SWBL with 17 goals and five assists for 39 points with Tarkany ranked second with 14 goals and five assists for 33 points. Kummer is tied for third in assists with seven along with Franklin senior Alex Bates.

With the loss Tri-County North dropped to 6-5-0 overall.
