ARCANUM — In the third Southwestern Buckeye League golf tournament at Beechwood Golf Course Sept. 16, Bellbrook took 1st place in the Southwestern Division and Valley View 1st place in the Buckeye Division.
The SWBL held three tournaments this season to crown team and individual champions. Bellbrook dominated in claiming back-to-back titles. The Eagles beat runner-up Ross by 147 strokes (904 – 1,051) over the three-event schedule and had three of the league’s top four overall golfers, led by senior and medalist C.J. Scohy.
Scohy, who is committed to Wright State, beat Franklin junior Aiden Standifer, last year’s medalist, by three strokes (212-215).
Bellbrook juniors David Gregory (230) and Brody Miller (231) were third and fourth, respectively.
Valley View, led by sophomore medalist Brody Denny (232), rallied from a 13-stroke deficit after the first two events, to edge Oakwood for the Buckeye Division title by two strokes (1,032-1,034). It is the Spartans first league title in boys golf since 2006. Carlisle was third. Oakwood sophomore Eddie McCarthy (246) was the individual Buckeye runner-up.
Jackson Kleismit led Brookville with a round of 87 to place 26th followed by Brody Schondelmyer (42nd) with 94, Lukas Osswald (54th) with 101 and Troy Peak (57th) with a 103. Kyle Peak (60th) carded a 106 and Daelon Wackerman (62nd) with 107. Only the team’s four lowest scores are used.
Eaton senior Gabe McCarty shot an 87 to place 20th in the third tournament and placed 4th overall in the Buckeye Division with a three tournament total of 259. Freshman Joel Appledorn was 57th with a 103. Sophomore Maxon Elstro and senior Landon Ozbun tied for 65th with 113. Freshman Evan Seider was 68th with 119. Junior Brayden Ballinger was 71st with a 127.
