Camden fires ruled arson

EATON —Two separate fires with hours of each other in the Deer Run camp area of Camden have been ruled arson by the Ohio Fire Marshal’s office.

According to Camden-Somers Township Fire and Rescue spokesperson Stephanie Forrer, Friday, Sept. 13, 5:44 p.m., “first responders were dispatched to Buck Rub Cove with reports of a fully involved camper fire with multiple exposures. On Sept. 13 at 9:36 p.m., first responders were dispatched to Antler Cove with reports of a fully involved camper fire with multiple exposures. At 9:52 p.m., Chief Josh Forrer requested the State Fire Marshal to respond for suspicion of arson.”

“After investigation of both properties, the State Fire Marshall has ruled both property fires as arson,” S. Forrer said in a department Facebook post.

“If you have any information (camera footage, suspicious activity, etc.) please call the State Fire Marshal at 800-589-2728. You may also call the Preble County Sheriff’s Office at 937-456-6262,” she noted.

In addition, Forrer thanked several department who provided mutual aid in responding to assist with the fires. “Thank you to all responding departments for assistance last night,” she noted. “Camden Somers-Township Fire & EMS, City of Eaton Fire & EMS, Gasper Township Fire & EMS, Shawnee Fire District and Milford Township Fire Department-Butler County.

“Thank you Gratis EMS for responding for first responder rehab,” she continued. “The owner’s dog was found, critically injured, and Gratis EMS transported to MedVet.”

She went on to thank the PCSO, Ohio State Fire Marshal and the Red Cross for their assistance.
