CLAYTON — A four-year starting offensive lineman, a record-setting kicker, and a tackling machine linebacker Friday were welcomed into the Northmont Football Hall of Fame at halftime of the Northmont vs. Cincinnati Withrow game Sept. 6.

The 2024 HOF class consists of Seth Frantz, Nicholas Winchester, and Ryan Woodie. The new inductees will have their names added to the displays at the main entrance of Northmont’s Premier Health Stadium, as well as the Lightning Lounge.

The Northmont Hall of Fame committee would like to congratulate all of these individuals for this tremendous honor. In addition, the committee would like to thank the Northmont Thunderback Club for their contributions to this special event.

SETH FRANTZ

Seth Frantz is a 2020 graduate of Northmont High School. He was a 4-year letter winner and a 3-year starter. Frantz played on both the offensive and defensive lines.

When asked about Frantz, current head coach, Tony Broering said, “Seth was an outstanding football player. Seth checked all the boxes required to be an excellent offensive lineman. Of course, he was big and strong, but more importantly he was dedicated, hardworking, and very competitive. Seth was also extremely coachable, he was blessed to have a great father, who was also a great coach.”

Frantz earned 1st Team All-Greater Western Ohio Conference his junior and senior years. When asked what his induction into the Northmont Hall of Fame means to him, Frantz said, “I’m not sure how to express it, but being inducted into the Northmont Football Hall of Fame feels amazing. I’m deeply honored by this recognition, especially as I remember my dad’s ceremony and the profound impact it had on me. This moment is incredibly special and fills me with both pride and nostalgia.”

Frantz is currently a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Toledo. He resides in Clayton.

NICK WINCHESTER

Nick Winchester is a 2017 graduate of Northmont. Winchester was a record-setting kicker and punter for the Thunderbolts. When asked about Nick, head coach, Tony Broering, said, “In my 35 years of coaching I have never had a kicker quite like Nick. Nick was a weapon. He could put the ball anywhere he wanted and we always knew that as soon as we crossed the 50 yard line we were in scoring position. He was that good.”

At Winchester’s final home game, he broke two school records that he still holds today. He holds the record for the longest field goal made (50 yards), and also the most career field goals made (15).

His accomplishments on the field led him to be chosen 2nd Team All-GWOC his sophomore and senior seasons and 1st Team All-GWOC his junior season. He was also selected to participate in the Ohio Nort-South All Star game.

When asked to share a favorite memory of his time as a Thunderbolt, Winchester said, “It was an honor having my grandpa, Dan Hall, announce every snap in my high school career and Rest in Peace, Mike Jewsikow – I would not have had the success I did without him. He is the reason I even began kicking.”

Winchester resides in Riverside and is a groundskeeper at Country Club of the North.

RYAN WOODIE

Ryan Woodie was a middle linebacker and fullback who graduated in 2001. During his illustrious career, Woodie was a tackling machine and earned several awards. He finished his career in the top three in career tackles and still sits in the top five.

Woodie was selected 2nd Team All-Greater Mimia Valley Conference both his sophomore and junior seasons and was selected 1st Team All-GMVC his senior season. Ryan was selected to play in the Miami Valley Football Coaches All Star Game.

Following his career at Northmont, Woodie continued his playing career at Thomas More University, where he was a 4-year letter winner and was selected captain his senior year by the players and coaches.

Woodie was one of 44 Division III players nationwide to be selected to play in the Division III Aztec Bowl.

Collin Abels, former Northmont defensive coach, said, “Ryan Woodie was your prototypical middle linebacker. He was smart, physical, and almost always in the right place. He was the quarterback of the defense, using his football intelligence to get people lined up and deciphering formations and plays. These attributes allowed him to make many tackles and big plays for the Northmont defense.”

Woodie currently works as the senior manager for Grismer Tire and Service Co. and resides in Miamisburg.
