EATON — The Preble County Cougars Special Olympics softball team, providers and staff combined to play an end of season softball game on Wednesday evening, Sept. 4, to close out their season.

“I want to thank all the volunteers and the staff from the Preble County Board of DD and Your Happy Place, L&M, and Free to Be You for all volunteering and helping, and some of you even playing today, DD Community Connections Coordinator and Preble County Special Olympics Local Coordinator Maria Morgan said.

She went on to thank Mike Derringer who served as umpire for the match-up, and then recognized Tim Lane, who has coached Special Olympics Softball for 20 years, with a special surprise proclamation.

“On behalf of the Preble County Commissioners and the Preble County Board of DD, by Superintendent Brian Greene, we’d like to say thank you for those 20 years that you put in to make sure these programs keep going,” she noted in presenting the proclamation to Lane.

“We can’t do what we do without the Village of Preble County, because it takes a village to make sure things happen,” Morgan said.

The evening concluded with an end-of-season pizza party.
