BROOKVILLE — The Blue Devils played their 2024 home opener Friday and held Graham to 65 total yards while churning out almost 400 yards themselves in routing the Falcons 33-0.

The victory improved Brookville to 2-1 and dropped Graham to 0-3 on the season. Brookville begins SWBL play this week traveling to Waynesville to take on the defending SWBL Buckeye Division Champions.

Coach Mike Hetrick and his staff preached getting back to Blue Devils football all week. The game was a step in the right direction as Brookville blocked and tackled better than in the first two games of the season.

Brookville did lose a fumble during the game and on the opening kick-off of the second half the Blue Devils failed to cover a short kick down the sideline and Graham recovered.

It was a good team win and a good bounce back after losing to Anna the week before. Brookville did a good job controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and the result was a victory.

Brookville forced a three and out to begin the game and then scored on its first series as Walt Adams went 26 yards for the tally. Adams then booted the PAT and it was 7-0 at the 6:29 mark of the first frame.

D.J. Moore was the star of the second drive. Moore caught a pair of passes from Jayden Resor of 20 yards and 26 yards, the second getting Brookville to the three where he would then take the ball into the end zone on a sweep. It was 14-0 with 17 second left in the first frame.

Bayne Boston would cap off a third scoring drive with a quarterback sneak for a touchdown with 1:07 remaining in the first half giving Brookville a 21-0 half time lead.

Brookville would score a touchdown in each of the remaining quarters in the game. Resor broke off a scintillating 59-yard scamper in the third quarter and Moore broke off a 36-yard sprint for a TD in the final frame.

Brookville held the ball for 31:04 in the game. Jayden Resor had three completions in four passing attempts for 62 yards. Moore led the team in tackles with seven. Sam Norby and Jayden Resor each added 3.5 stops.

It was the fourth time Brookville has had a final score of 33-0. The shutout was the 117th time Brookville has not allowed a point, the 61st time at home. The game was the 400th home game in Brookville history and the 230th home victory for Brookville. It was the second time in three games this season there has been a running clock.

Brookville travels to Waynesville Friday night. It is the 8th time the two teams will face each other and Brookville leads the series four wins to three losses. However, Brookville has not defeated the Spartans since 2004.

Waynesville won twice last season 21-14 and 45-42 in a classic double overtime thriller in the playoffs. The game will be broadcast on the free internet radio website Brookvillesports.com with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.
