Camden Police Chief issues scam warning

CAMDEN — Police Chief Matt Spurlock on Wednesday, Sept. 4, went online to warn residents of a possible scam phone call using his name.

“It has been brought to my attention today that someone claiming to be me has been calling residents in Camden and the surrounding area. The claim of this imposter is that you are on some type of list for suspicious activity with Homeland Security. The caller goes on to talk about bank accounts that have been opened in your name. This person is attempting to gather personal information to steal your identity,” Spurlock noted.

“I can assure you that the Camden Police Department or no other Police Department in the region will call you and ask for money, donations, or any of your personal information such as assets on hand and how much money you have in each account. Please do not be fooled by this thief. They are clever and the phone number has been showing up as the Camden Police Department’s phone number (937-452-7522.)

“If you have lost any money to this scam please contact your local police department,” he added.
