CLAYTON — Fresh off a 2-1 victory over Centerville, their first regular season victory over the Elks since 2019, the Northmont boys soccer team hoped for the same success Thursday against undefeated Fairmont.

However, it wasn’t in the cards as the Firebirds posted a 5-1 victory to improve to 2-0-0 in Greater Western Ohio Conference play and 4-0-0 overall. Northmont fell to 1-1-0 in the GWOC and 2-2-0 overall.

Owen Castle scored the Firebirds first goal on a bicycle kick with 15:26 left in the first half, a score that stood at halftime. Grey Danner, Michael Hallock, Freddy Irakoze and Kevin Nkundinka each scored in the second half for Fairmont.

Firebird assists came from Danner with two, Hallock, Will Herman and Mordecai Kesner. Goalkeepers Joseph Snowden made four saves and Gavin Fourman allowed one goal.

Julian Bazile scored the Thunderbolts lone goal off an assist by Kamryn Kleber. Ethan Crist made four saves in goal.

Northmont plays at Beavercreek (Tuesday) and a non-conference match at Butler on Thursday.
