WEST ELKTON — A deputy conducting a routine business check at the former West Elkton school building led to the arrest of two subjects on theft-related charges last week.

According to Sheriff Mike Simpson, on Friday, Aug. 23, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a deputy was conducting a routine business check at the former Preble Shawnee Elementary School in West Elkton when he discovered a vehicle behind the school.

“Upon further investigation, the deputy located a male and female on the property. Upon interviewing the subjects, the male admitted that they were there to break into the building,” Simpson reported.

Deputies located criminal tools in the vehicle, including crow bars, hack saws, bolt cutters, spot and flashlights, according to Simpson. They also found in the vehicle suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, as well as a loaded 9mm handgun, Simpson noted.

The deputies arrested both subjects and housed them in the Preble County Jail, a media release said.

Courtney M. Thompson, 39, of Dayton and Noah Edward Wolfe, 26, of Greenville, were formally charged in Eaton Municipal Court with the crimes including vaving weapons under disability, a 3rd degree felony; aggravated possession of drugs, a 3rd degree felony; possession of heroin, a 5th degree felony; breaking and entering, a 5th degree felony, and possessing criminal tools, a 5th degree felony.

Thompson has since bonded out of jail, according to officials. Wolfe remained in the Preble County Jail at press time.
