Man arrested for attempted murder

GRATIS — A Gratis man was in custody at the Preble County Jail at press time, facing attempted murder and other charges stemming from a stabbing incident which occurred in Gratis on Monday, Aug. 26.

David A. Daniels, 45, was formally charged in Eaton Municipal Court with crimes including attempt to commit murder, a 1st degree felony; two counts felonious assault, 2nd degree felonies and domestic violence, a 3rd degree felony.

“Daniels and the victim have resided together for multiple years and share children together,” Sheriff Mike Simpson said in a media release on Wednesday, Aug. 28. “Daniels has seven prior domestic violence convictions.”

Bond was set by the court at $500,000 cash or surety. The victim remains hospitalized in serious condition, according to officials.

The Preble County Sheriff’s Office and the Gratis Police Department investigated the stabbing.

PCSO deputies and GPD were dispatched to 6 Parrish Drive in Gratis Monday morning at approximately 11:53 a.m., on a domestic situation, according to Simpson.

When the Gratis PD unit arrived on scene, they located a female in the driveway who had been stabbed, Simpson reported.

“The victim, a 45-year-old resident of the address, was transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with critical injuries. A male subject who also resides at the address, was detained and later taken into custody by deputies,” the initial media release noted.

Deputies remained on the scene collecting evidence for a couple hours, according to Simpson

Gratis Police Department and Gratis EMS responded to the scene.
