Lady Bolts suffer shutout loss to Centerville

CLAYTON — Northmont’s offense continued to struggle Wednesday night during its conference opener, a 2-0 loss to rival Centerville.

So far this season the Lady Bolts have managed to generate just one goal in three games, a 5-1 loss at Carroll on Monday. Freshman Ashlyn Bazile scored that goal.

The loss to Centerville saw Northmont fall to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Greater Western Ohio Conference play. Centerville improved to 4-1-0 and 1-0-0 in conference play.

Senior Savannah Conner netted the Lady Elks first goal at 25:11 in the first half. Zoe Johnson made it 2-0 with 4:28 remaining in the first half. Sammi Aydelott and Megan Reichard earned assists.

The Lady Bolts competed well in the second half and made some runs on goal but couldn’t finish.

Things don’t get any easier as the Lady Bolts will host an always tough Beavercreek on Wednesday, third place finishers in the GWOC last season.

Northmont coach Kinsey Mangen felt that her team made a step forward against Centerville, a team that has allowed only two goals in five game this season.

“Tonight in particular we just made mistakes against a team that capitalizes on mistakes, but I still think we took steps in the right direction,” Mangen said. “We still got opportunities against a really talented team and now we’ve just got to get them into the back of the net.

“We are entering a part of our schedule now where we are starting to gain our confidence at the right time and we are just going to have to take advantage of our chemistry kind of building up games go by,” Mangen added.
