Northmont volleyball team defeats Piqua & Fairmont

CLAYTON — In their home opener Tuesday the Lady Bolts volleyball team defeated Piqua 3-0 and on Wednesday opened Greater Western Ohio Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Fairmont to remain undefeated with a 4-0 and 1-0 conference record.

In the first set against Piqua, the Lady Bolts took a dominant lead and went on to post a 25-18 win.

The Lady Bolts got off to a slow start in the second set and could find their rhythm. Trailing 13-18 Northmont called a timeout and when play resumed the Lady Bolts went on an 8-0 run to take a 21-18 lead and went on to win 25-22.

Northmont’s momentum carried over to the third set and the Lady Bolts went on to post a 25-17 win. After posting victories over Oakwood and Fairborn on Saturday the victory over Piqua saw the Lady Bolts improve to 3-0 overall.

“Last season we lost to Piqua in five sets, so coming back this year to sweep Piqua at home was great way to bounce back from last year’s loss,” said Northmont coach Matt Bridenbaugh.

Jadyn Johnson finished the match with a team high 11 kills while also contributing an ace and two digs. Lydia Bridenbaugh finished the match with eight kills, two blocks, two aces, and a team high 12 digs.

Brianna Abels had a team high 19 assists, nine digs, and three aces. Maddie Wadle finished the game with two aces, and 10 digs. Jenna Hall also added five kills, and nine digs.

The match against Fairmont was very competitive with Northmont taking the first set 25-23 with the Lady Firebirds flipping the score to win the second set 23-25.

Northmont dominated the third set to post a 25-13 win. The fourth set was a titanic struggled with the Lady Bolts eventually prevailing 29-27.

The Lady Bolts will host Middletown on Monday and conference rival Centerville on Tuesday. Both contests start at 6:30 p.m.
