Brookville Branch Library wants to share patrons’ collections

BROOKVILLE — Last month, the Brookville Branch Library introduced its display case by highlighting some of the staff’s childhood items. The library is now looking to give folks in the community the opportunity to share the things they love also.

“We are asking community members to share a collection that can be on display for a month,” explained Senior Patron Services Assistant Jeanette Dohner, “If you love to collect tea pots, vintage toys, Barbie Dolls, Funko Pops, souvenir spoons, Pez dispensers, horse figurines or whatever your fancy, we want to show it off at the Brookville Branch. We hope to begin this program come September.”

Dohner was in charge of booking collections at a previous library and said that folks were always curious to see what was in the cases each month. She says there were even times when people’s families traveled a distance to see their display. She’ll even take a photo of the person with their items, if they consent, for publication in The Register-Herald.

Interested community members who would like to share what they collect should contact Dohner by calling the main Ask Me Line, 937-463-2665, and asking to be transferred to the Brookville Branch or stopping in at the library during regular hours which are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Currently the case is housing a fun passive event for patrons to get to know the library staff a bit better. Each of the staff members brought in a cherished childhood tchotchke and book to share. Patrons can try to match the item to the correct person for a chance to win a small prize.
