BROOKVILLE — Junior Maddie Tarkany and senior Grace Taylor scored hat tricks with three goals each Saturday to help lead the Brookville girls soccer team to a lopsided 11-0 victory over Dixie.

Other players with multiple goals included Kinley Kummer with two goals and two assists and Megan Luebke with two goals. Alyssa Lackey had one goal and two assists.

The Lady Devils completely dominated the match, limiting Dixie to only one shot on goal. In comparison, Brookville launched 38 shots on goal and took 20 corner kicks. The Lady Devils made 221 passes with 148 successful for a 67 percent success rate.

Dixie made 79 passes with 12 successful for a 15 percent success rate.

After losing 13 seniors to graduation, the victory saw the Lady Devils get off to a promising start.

“We have 17 new players to our program and a total of 35,” said Brookville coach Robert Hope. “Two key players that are returning are Maddie Tarkany and Grace Taylor who had three goals apiece and a newcomer, freshman Kinley Kummer had two goals and two assists.”

During the postgame interview following intermittent rain during the second half, a rainbow graced the sky at the west end of the stadium – perhaps a sign of promising things that lie ahead for the Lady Devils this season.

Hope acknowledged that his team held an advantage in its first contest.

“We will see. Dixie was struggling a little bit,” Hope said. “They only had one or two subs, so hats off to them. I thought they played us hard and played us well, but it is what it was.”

The Lady Devils host Carlisle at 6 p.m. on Thursday and travel to Talawanda on Saturday for a match at 2 p.m.
