MIAMISBURG — The Lady Bolts varsity golf team started the season at the Miamisburg Invitational played at Pipestone Golf Course.

With 21 schools represented this is one of the largest tournaments of the year. As a team Northmont finished in solo 10th place with a score of 456, just one stroke ahead of fellow GWOC school Springboro.

Lady Bolts’ junior Megan Fosburg led the team and finished in 12th place out of almost 100 girls. It was a very hot and humid day that took over six hours to finish the match.

Coach John Lemmon was happy with his team’s first outing of the year.

“The weather was really hot and the day was long but I am very proud of everyone’s great attitudes in spite of the tough conditions,” Lemmon said.

The Lady Bolts are very excited to get the season started and have six returning players. It was a challenge to replace the five amazing seniors from last season but spirits are high.

This year there are nine girls total including three newcomers. Third year player junior Megan Fosburg leads the team and after a full summer of junior tournaments she is ready to go low.

Third year player junior Sydney Schmaltz finished last year strong and is looking to improve on her impressive play.

Second year player sophomore Lila Wolf has already shot her lowest score ever and with her great attitude the sky’s the limit.

Sophomore Elizabeth Calhoun is also a second year player and is showing promise as her game is trending in the right direction.

Newcomer Addyson Wissing is playing her first season but as a senior she is wanting to make a big splash for her final year.

Another new face on the team is senior Laynee Barrett. She has shown impressive improvement over the summer and the coaches are excited to see how good she can get.

The third new golfer is junior Maddy Veach. Even though she just started playing she is a great athlete and has a winning attitude.

Seniors Charlotte Bechler and Nadia Anderson have had a slow start to the summer but are eager to find out how much their games will improve. They both are looking to close out this final chapter with a bang.

Lemmon will be continuing his head coaching role again this season and looking to lead the Lady Bolts to another great year.

Nick Avramaut will be taking over the JV coaching duties after decorated five year Coach McKinzie McPherson says goodbye so she can focus on raising her new baby girl.

Both coaches are excited to see how the girls play as the season progresses and are happy to be a part of the Northmont tradition of excellence.
