ENGLEWOOD — On July 22 at approximately 3:45 p.m. officers from the Miami Valley Hospital Police Department and the Englewood Police Department responded to 9000 North Main St., Miami Valley Hospital North, on the report of a pedestrian crash on the property.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Unit responded to assist with the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 2007 Cadillac DTS, operated by a 60-year-old male was backing into a parking space along the west side of the hospital.

The vehicle traveled onto the sidewalk, through a mulch bed and collided with a guard shack before striking two pedestrians outside the main entrance to the hospital.

The vehicle continued to travel in reverse a short distance where it struck a 2017 Kia Forte occupied by one individual who was not injured. The Kia was forced into a 2024 Ford E450 bus occupied only by the driver who was also uninjured.

The driver of the 2007 Cadillac then put the car in drive and drove out along the sidewalk dragging the two pedestrians for a short distance before turning the car to the south along the front of the hospital striking a pole and then an unoccupied vehicle parked in the lot.

The driver of the 2007 Cadillac was removed with minor injuries.

William Rodenberg, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 74-year-old man was transported to Miami Valley Hospital’s main campus in Dayton with life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Services Unit of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
