Brush disposal site in West Alexandria closes due to misuse

WEST ALEXANRIA — Effective July 10, the Village of West Alexandria announced the closure of the brush pile drop off site on Dorsey-Akers Drive due to ongoing misuse and non-compliance with safety guidelines.

At the same time, suspension of tire disposal at the water department was discontinued.

“Due to recent incidents of improper dumping and disregard for posted regulations at our designated area for brush and yard waste disposal, we are forced to close the brush pile,” said Austin Hutchison, village administrator.

“Despite our efforts to maintain a safe and organized environment, a recent violation has compelled us to take action,” Hutchison added. “Effective immediately, we will be enforcing stricter monitoring and penalties for those found illegally dumping at this location.”

Hutchison asked for the community’s cooperation to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the village. He noted the inconvenience the closure might cause, but stressed the safety and well-being of community residents is the top priority and urged citizens to use designated disposal methods properly to ensure a cleaner and safer environment.
