EATON — Members of the Alpha Garden Club are celebrating the club’s 100th anniversary this year, and in honor of the milestone, have provided a special addition to a downtown Eaton park.

On Tuesday, July 2, members of the club joined with city officials to celebrate the installation of a sundial and plaque donated by the club for the Brooke-Gould Memorial Bicentennial Park.

The sundial was installed earlier this spring by Eaton Public Maintenance Staff.

Alpha Garden Club, a group dedicated to learning and educating about gardening, came in to existence in December 1924, replacing an earlier garden club formed in 2023. The club was responsible for holding the first flower show at the Preble County Fair in 1931.

Alpha Garden Club’s purpose is to “promote better community interest in the environment; to place a garden book in the Eaton Library annually; to contribute to other selected projects; to share friendship and to share floral information.”
