PREBLE COUNTY — On Saturday, May 4, Preble County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) partnered with the American Red Cross for its Sound the Alarm Campaign. Residents across Preble County were encouraged to call the American Red Cross to schedule an appointment for installation of free smoke detectors.

The event was kicked off at the Preble County EMA office, where volunteers came for training on installation and education. Teams were provided supplies and locations for the pre-scheduled appointments. The Northwest Fire and Ambulance District also did a door-to-door blitz in parts of New Paris.

During the event, 34 volunteers installed 104 smoke alarms in 39 homes serving 100 residents.

Preble County EMA thanks all the volunteers who assisted with the campaign, as well as the HIT Foundation for its support, and the Northwest Fire & Ambulance District and American Red Cross for their partnerships.

“We’d also like to thank Cassano’s for providing pizza for all the volunteers following the event,” PC EMA Director Suzy Cottingim said.
