Twin Valley South falls in sectional tourney

NEW MADISON — Tri-Village pounded out 19 hits Thursday to score a 17-1 victory over Twin Valley South in the Division IV, Southwest I sectional tournament.

Twin Valley South scored its lone run in the top of the first inning. Kelsie Maggard drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Sidnee Elswick hit a ground out to second with Maggard advancing to third.

Amelia Suggs hit a grounder to third and third baseman Emma Greer fired the ball to the plate in an attempt to throw Maggard out. Catcher Hailey Burk committed an error enabling Maggard to score.

Tri-Village responded with five runs in the home half of the first. Tai Mize drew a walk, Emma Greer singled, Kenna Wilcox singled, Burk singled and stole second, and Aereonna Baker singled to generate a 5-1 lead.

The Lady Patriots added another run in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth to score the runaway victory.

Abby Crouse generated the lone hit for Twin Valley South.

Elizabeth Poling earned the victory. She pitched four innings, allowed one hit, one run, with two walks and five strike outs.

Elswick took the loss for the Lady Panthers. She pitched one inning, allowed five hits and five runs and one walk. Hannah Thorpe pitched three innings in relief. She surrendered nine hits and 12 runs (four earned), with three walks and one strikeout.

Greer led Tri-Village by going three for four with four runs and two RBIs. Baker went three for three with two runs and two RBIs.

With the loss Twin Valley South concludes its season at 7-14 overall. Tri-Village improved to 20-1 and advances to face Tri-County North in the sectional final on Tuesday.
