BROOKVILLE — The Brookville High School Class of 1929 held its commencement program on Tuesday evening, May 21, 1929 in the school auditorium. The valedictorian was Helen Jane Mundhenk. Harold Share was the class president. There were 26 graduates. The class flower was the American Beauty Rose, the class colors were old rose and silver, and the class motto was ‘Be Yourself.’ The senior class play was The Mummy and the Mumps.

In 1929, the Pastime Theatre on Market Street was showing Greta Garbo in Wild Orchids and Bill Cody in Slim Fingers. The Wolf Motor Co. was selling Oaklands and Pontiacs. At Allman’s Restaurant dinners were 50 cents with pie and coffee. Moler Motor sales was selling Graham Paige cars and Theophilies Brown was selling Chevy’s and Oldsmobiles.

Earl Singer and son were selling Brookfield Products, Gordon’s Oil Station was on Wolf Creek Street, phone number 143. The Sweet Shoppe phone number was 28. George Stonecash was picked as Brookville’s scout representative to the World Scout Jamboree at Berkenlead, England. The Ketrow Circus was in town. The new Willys-Knight car was on display at H.E. Wysong’s Garage. You could buy an Essex Auto at Fowble Motor Sales for $695.

George Prass took over the barber shop operated by Walt Saul. Mary Elizabeth Hoerner and Robert L. Warnke were married on June 13, 1929. Keener and Ludy operated a machine shop at the corner of Western Avenue and Orchard Street. Greenblat’s Department Store had a sale on men’s two pants suits for $19.95 with a pair of shoes and socks thrown in.
