NEW MADISON & MARIA STEIN — The football season came to an end for two Preble County teams after losses in the first round of the OHSAA state playoffs on Friday, Oct. 27.

National Trail and Tri-County North were both shutout and ended the season with 4-7 records.

Just a week after falling to Tri-Village 20-7, at home, National Trail went on the road for a Division VI, Region 24 contest and suffered a 35-0 loss to the Patriots.

The No. 12 seeded Blazers fell behind 14-0 after the first quarter on a pair of Patriot touchdowns by quarterback Braden Keating.

Keating scored on runs of 5 and 1-yards.

The fifth-seeded Patriots added three more scores in the second quarter for a 35-0 lead.

Tri-County North may have had the toughest assignment of all teams in the playoffs, having to travel to the regions No. 1 seed and state No. 1 Marion Local.

The Flyers lived up to their billing with a 63-0 win over the Panthers in a Division VII, Region 28 game.

North, the 16th seed, was held to just 89 total yards for the game as Marion Local raced out to a 28-0 first quarter lead. The Flyers added three more scores in the second quarter for a 49-0 halftime lead.

Senior Colten Vanwinkle led North with 93 yards rushing.
