CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee ran its winning streak to two games with a hard-fought 28-14 win over visiting Twin Valley South on Friday, Sept. 8.

Shawnee scored 21 second half points to pull away from a 7-0 halftime lead.

“We made too many mistakes (in the first half), Shawnee coach Dave Maddox said. “We kind of kept shooting ourselves in the foot. Especially offensively, too many penalties that stopped a couple of drives. (The) defense I thought played very well first half, actually the whole game, I thought the defense played very well. Second half a whole lot cleaner. The offensive was able to get running and a little bit get the ball moving down. Brody had some good throws and Isaac Blankenship couple of good catches.”

Blankenship connected with Kaden Taylor on a 35-yard TD pass for the only score of the first half.

Blankenship then added a 9-yard scoring run to put the Arrows up 14-0 in the third quarter.

South’s Brayden Koeller then ripped off a 60-yard touchdown pass from Caden Bishop to get the Panthers within 14-7.

Another Taylor score, this time a 26-yard pass from Brody Morton extended the Arrows lead to 21-7 later in the third quarter.

In the fourth, Morton found Blankenship for a 23-yard TD pass for a 28-7 lead.

Morton finished the game with 189 yards passing on 13-of-19 attempts. Blankenship had seven catches for 123 yards.

For South, Bishop completed 11-of-18 passes for 164 yards.

“Overall, I think it was just a good team effort. South’s good,” Maddox said. “That’s just good high school football right there. It was hard-nosed on both sides. Both teams played hard, and we were fortunate enough to come out on top.”

South coach Brian Butts said his team needs to be more consistent.

“We just can’t find that constant consistency,” he said. We keep stubbing our toes. Mentally we just have a lot to overcome as far as confidence and things like that, and believing. We’re working on it.”

Shawnee, now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference, will remain at home to host Thurgood Marshall on Friday, Sept. 15, in a non-league game.

South (1-3, 1-2), will travel to Mississinawa Valley on Friday for a WOAC contest.
