ST. PARIS — In the first ever meeting between Graham and Brookville in football the Blue Devils completely dominated the game and rolled to an easy 49-6 victory, improving to three wins in as many games heading into SWBL Division play next week.

Graham historically has good solid football, but this year is an exception for the Falcons, who have only three seniors and play many sophomores and freshman.

Brookville played everyone during the game and started substituting in the third quarter. The Blue Devils never punted in the game.

Graham picked up a first down on the contest’s opening possession but was forced to punt. The punt rolled to the Brookville one-yard line. Fans then watched Brookville tie a school record with a 99 yard drive. It was the third time Brookville has accomplished that feat, all three times under the tutelage of Coach Mike Hetrick.

From the Falcon 49 Keegan Mehr kept the ball on sweep to the left, cut back across the field, broke free of the defense and galloped to the end zone for the game’s first touchdown. Walt Adams booted the PAT and Brookville led 7-0 with 4:28 on the clock.

Adams then intercepted a pass and Brookville started at their own 38. A personal foul penalty moved the ball back to the 23. Brookville scored in seven plays. On the first play of the second frame Jake Lenser scored from the five and following the PAT boot by Adams, the Devils led 14-0 with 11:54 remaining in the first half.

Following a three and out the Blue Devils started at the Falcon 37. Moore gained 15 to the 22 on a sweep, Adams circled the right end and bolted to the one, and then Adams got the payoff with a one-yard plunge for a touchdown. Adams’ kick made it 21-0 with 7:49 left in the half.

The Falcons put together a 10-play scoring drive to get on the scoreboard. On 3rd and 12 from the 32 Stull tossed a pass to Gus Ward at the 20. Ward snagged the ball, spun around and raced to paydirt for a Graham touchdown. The PAT kick went wide and Brookville led 21-6 with 3:16 on the clock.

Brookville started at their 29 on its next possession drove 71 yards for a TD. From the Graham 14 Mehr tossed a pass into the back corner of the end zone where Seth Hoover caught the ball in stride for a touchdown with 27 seconds remining in the half. Brookville led 28-6.

Jake Lenser intercepted a pass but the despite moving the ball to the 14, time ran out in the first half with the score 28-6.

Brookville continued controlling the game in the second half. Brookville got a good kickoff return by Hoover and then marched 53 yards on six running plays. Dane Moore went around left end and went untouched into the end zone for a 10 yard touchdown with 9:12 left in the third quarter. Adams’ kick put the Blue Devils up 35-6.

Sam Fullenkamp tossed a Falcon running back for a one-yard loss and then Trent Brooks sacked the quarterback at the 31.

Hoover broke off a nice return on a punt to the Falcon 30. DJ Moore gained five and then Karl Karlsson bolted through the left side to the two-yard line. Karlsson then took the pigskin into the end zone and Brookville led 41-6. Adams made it six for six on PAT tries and Brookville led 42-6 and the running clock rule was invoked for the rest of the game. Brookville then substituted freely.

Then the third quarter ended at 42-6. The final score came in the final period with 2:19 left in the game when DJ Moore scored from the seven. Aden Lamb kicked the PAT and Brookville had won the game 49-6.

Game notes from Brookville Football Historian Larry Meyers include Graham being the 60th different opponent for Brookville in football. The 99-yard drive tied the school record for 99-yard drives. Previously there were two, against Dixie in 2009 and against Valley View in 2011. Brookville is now 116 games over .500 overall and has the highest Brookville winning percentage since 1959. It is also the 2nd time Brookville has won a game 49-6.

Stats from Aaron Crabtree show Brookville winning almost every category, first downs 28-4; rushing yards 408-16; passing yards 76-52; total yards 482-68, and points off turnovers 7-0. Brookville was three for three on third downs, Graham was two of eight on third downs and one for one on fourth down tries. Brookville was six of seven in the red zone with six touchdowns and running out of time on the other opportunity.

Brookville sports.com will broadcast the game beginning at 6:35 p.m. It will be a pink out night with a walk after the game around the track to think of those we know who have had, have survived, or who have lost their lives to cancer.
