CLAY TOWNSHIP — The trustees approved a revision to the pay rate and job description for township administrative assistant Brandi Wathen.

Wathen will receive a $5 an hour increase.

In addition to her current assignments as township administrative assistant, Wathen’s job description states she also will be providing assistance to recently appointed fiscal officer Mark Brownfield.

“By changing the administrative assistant’s job description, Brandi can assist Mark a little more as opposed to hiring someone, which will save the township some money,” trustee president Dale Winner said.

The trustees also approved a resolution declaring it necessary to replace the current 3.25-mill police levy tax that is in excess of the 10-mill limitation with a continuous levy.

Instead of putting the levy back on the ballot in 2025, the trustees agreed to put it on the ballot in November as a replacement for the 3.25 mills and, if approved by voters, will run as a continuous levy.

If approved in November, township residents will not pay anymore than what they were paying when the levy was originally approved in 2014.

The trustees approved a resolution allowing Super Tech Heavy Duty, of Tipp City, to make repairs to the township’s 2000 International dump truck.

The trustees also approved a resolution that changes the purchase of a 2023 four-wheel drive Chevrolet Silverado 1500 work truck crew cab from Reichard Chevrolet, in Brookville, to White Allen Chevrolet, in Dayton.

“Reichard was not able to get us what we needed and (trustee) Duane (Heuker) located a truck at White Allen, so this resolution will allow us to purchase that vehicle from White Allen,” Winner said.

The trustees approved a resolution establishing spending limits for the trustees and department supervisors.

Trustees have a spending limit of $5,000. Department supervisors have a spending limit of $1,500.

Winner asked when was the last time the trustees adjusted spending limits

“I think it’s been a while since spending limits were adjusted. Obviously, everything goes up,” Winner said.

Clay Township Police Chief John Van Gundy said the last adjustment took place in 2017.

“That was for the trustees,” Winner said.

“Spending limits for department supervisors probably have never been increased,” Winner added.
